Beethoven – Symphony No.7, op.92, A major

Let us take a trip through time, focusing on the epicenter of European classical music: Vienna. Dress up in your favorite outfit for Johann Strauss’s festive overture to Die Fledermaus, an opera about a costume ball. During this 250th anniversary year of Beethoven’s birth, we need no further excuse to play one of his finest and liveliest symphonies, the Seventh. In between is a more recent and still relatively unknown Viennese gem by Friedrich Gulda performed by Mark Kosower, The Cleveland Orchestra’s principal cellist. This eclectic and entertaining concerto deftly blurs the idioms of composers such as Beethoven and Strauss, and includes elements of jazz, rock, polka, classical, and more!
