Ashland Symphony Women's League

How We Started

The Ashland Women's League was formed to assist in the financial support of the Ashland Symphony Orchestra when major funding from the Ashland College Music Department could no longer be maintained. Ticket sales and community contributions provided additional support. A group of individuals from the community was loosely organized in the early 1970s as members of the "League" which provided financial support for the orchestra. The "League" at that time included both husbands and wives and was the precursor to the current Ashland Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors.

During the 1972-1973 season, the Ashland Symphony League was officially formed for the purpose of promoting the orchestra. Mrs. Sarah Rowan was elected the first League president. The final transformation came in 1978 when the Ashland Symphony Women's League was recognized. The aims and goals of this auxiliary have remained the same as the original vision: to provide promotional support and funding to advance the mission of the Ashland Symphony Orchestra.

What We Do

League members have spent the subsequent years ushering at concerts, baking cookies for countless receptions, hosting pre-concert dinners, sponsoring luncheons and fashion shows, holding rummage sales and promoting subscription ticket sales. Special activities have included luminary kit sales, holiday candlelight home tours, fall luncheon and silent auctions, and sponsoring the Four Lads and the Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band concerts. Two recent additions are the Dazzle Holiday Bazaar and our first ASWL cookbook. Find out "What's New" at the League.

The Ashland Symphony Orchestra has relied upon our strong participation and efforts for promotional and financial support. Because of active League participation we were able to give the orchestra $18,000 for the 2006-2007. Our thanks to all of our league members who helped make this happen. Help us do it again!

Join the League as an active member or an associate member. Our membership year runs from July 1 through June 30. Membership dues are tax-deductible. Just print and complete the membership form and return it with your check to Terri Hudson at 58 Samaritan Avenue , Ashland , OH 44805 . Checks should be made payable to Ashland Symphony Women's League, or ASWL.
